Howcutts in Court before 1900

The first list is of documents and publications about legal cases in England that involved people called Howcott or Howcutt during the period up to 1900.

The Parties in civil cases normally give the name of the Plaintiff followed by that of the Defendant. However, there may be exceptions to that order. The letters in brackets after some names indicate that the source specifically states where that person was living at the time.

The “source” states where the collection of information can be found. The “reference” is the code that has to be quoted to consult the documents or, in the case of a newspaper, its date.

Apart from the prosecutions of Richard Hyde in 1615 and of James Howcutt in 1827, all the cases are about civil disputes, rather than criminal matters.

Some cases are covered by more than one reference.

Details of the identity of the family members recorded appear in the last list.
