State
of North Carolina, Chowan County.
In
the Name of God, Amen. I Frederick Howcott of the State and County aforesaid,
being at this time very weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory,
thanks be to the Almighty God for the same and well knowing that tis appointed
once for all Men to die, so make this my last Will and Testament.
First.
I desire that all my just Debts shall be paid by my Executor hereafter named.
Item.
I give and bequeath to my beloved Mother Sarah Howcott, her Heirs and Assigns
forever One Negro Boy by the name of Donaldson.
Item.
I give and bequeath to my brother Charles Howcott, his Heirs and Assigns
forever, one small Tract or Parcel of Land, lying in Green Hall, containing
Fifty Acres, more or less, and bounded as follows – Beginning near the Gate
where my deceased Father lived, thence along the Road to the main Road thence
down the main Road to the Swamp, thence along the middle of the Swamp to the old
Mill Road, then along the said Road to the first Station.
Item.
I give and bequeath to my Brother James Howcott, one Yearling Colt; also my
Saddle and Bridle.
Item.
I give to my Brother John Howcott my Hunting Gun to be delivered to him whenever
my Executor thinks proper, also my wearing Watch I give to my Brother Nathaniel
Howcott.
Item.
I give to my Mother Sarah Howcott, the Note of Hand that I hold against her.
Then
all the Residue of my Property, both real and personal, I leave to be sold at
six months credit by my Executor, and the Money arising therefrom, and all
Moneys by Note or otherwise that may be due me at my decease, I wish may be
equally divided between my Brothers and Sisters, namely Elizabeth Hoskins, James
Howcott, Sarah Howcott, Mary Howcott, Nathaniel Howcott and John Howcott. And I
hereby constitute and appoint James Hoskins Executor to this my last Will and
Testament, acknowledging this to be my only and last Will as aforesaid. In
Witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and Seal, this 15th day of
October 1822.

foregoing Will was exhibited in open Court at March Term 1823, proved by the
oath of Mackay Gregory, one of the subscribing Witnesses to the same, and
ordered to be recorded.
