At the time of the 1901 census, Joseph Howcutt, a bricklayer born at Brixworth was living in four rooms of this house along with his wife Elizabeth and their youngest surviving daughters Florence and Ethel. The other three rooms were occupied by another couple. It is likely that the Howcutts occupied the upper part of the house.
