Howcutt family reunion

Shearsby village hall - Saturday 14 June 2008

On 14 June 2008, about 20 members of the Howcutt family visited the historic village of Shearsby, where many of our family lived between about 1600 and 1704. We were based at the well-appointed village hall, next door to the half-timbered house where William and Anne Howcott lived in 1669.

The start time of 1 pm was convenient for people with long journeys - some of us came from Yorkshire and London on the day. Others had originally set out from as far afield as Scotland and Kentucky.

During the afternoon, we enjoyed walking around the village, as well as sharing memories of times gone by and viewing a family tree and the many family pictures we had brought along.

At the end of the day, most of us moved on to the "Chandler's Arms" for a meal before our journeys home. Six of us stayed overnight in the area and on our way there made a pilgrimage to see the Howcutt tombstones in Bitteswell churchyard - almost after dark!
