marked FRANKLIN was the widow of George Howcutt, who generally used the
Franklin surname.
The person
marked HOWAITT was Sarah Elizabeth Howcutt who was born at Wellingborough in
1874 and whose youngest sister was born at Battersea in 1885. The only Sarah
in the 1891 census born at Wellingborough and who had a similar surname to
Howcutt was “Sarah Howaitt” at 60 Lancaster Gate.
Her stated age of 20 was about three years above Sarah Elizabeth Howcutt’s
age but the Ancestry indexes to the 1881 or the 1891 census do not contain
anyone else with Howaitt or a similar surname who
had been born at Wellingborough, so there is no doubt that Sarah Elizabeth
Howcutt was the person recorded at 60 Lancaster Gate.
